Puerto Cruz- "We want to become champions as individuals and in life."     Thus, the teacher Hung Ki Kim described the philosophy of the Academy of Arts martial Hong Ki Kim, totaling 40 years of operation in the city of Puerto La Cruz, Anzoátegui State.

The beginning of the institution dates back to January 15, 1972, after the arrival to the country (1970), from Korea, of the eldest son of Kim, master Hong Ki Kim, family who founded the gymnasium of tae kwon do in the Municipal Avenue capital Sotillo municipality.

The love for fishing was one of the reasons for which his father Sung Don decided to be established on soil portocruzano and gave the go-ahead to the creation of the school.

Subsequently, training centre was transferred to the Paseo de la Cruz and the sea, ancient Paseo Colón.

Hung Ki Kim, current President of the Venezuelan Federation of Tae Kwon Do, ensures not to abandon the foundation of discipline, since his arrival at Venezuela. It is the only martial art accepted into the Olympics.

"The origin of this speciality consists in the formation of the human being." "That is our strength."

Hung Ki Kim was one of the proponents of the creation of the Venezuelan Federation of Tae Kwon Do.  However, he was not part of the first Board of Directors established in 1984.

After the formation of the Creole organization, Hong Ki Kim was required to work in the International Federation of Tae Kwon Do and his brother Hung Ki Kim was put in charge of the Academy that became the Venezuelan capital from the sport to Puerto La Cruz.

The philosophy of the institution has allowed him to train athletes and citizens that satisfaction at the international level, have given the country says the leader.

Martial discipline has won four Olympic medals for the nation, two of them when it was still played as a display.

Success story

Arlindo Gouveia, orphaned of father and mother, pioneered the shine in the global environment the teachings of the Academy and the Kim family on the mat.

The Falcon (54 kg) rose to the top of the podium in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.      He conquered the single Golden Award in America in the specialty, then, in the male line, in which for the first time in history a competitor of the Asian continent - the Korean Sung-Kyo Seo was defeated (4-3 in the playoff round) in the 54 kilogram division.

Gouveia had already obtained the gold medal at the 1989 Bolivarian games, 1990 Central American, Pan-American Tae Kwon Do and 1991 Pan American Games.

"I spent my whole life in the Academy, since my childhood." "I arrived in 1979 at the school and I'm still going to it," said Gouveia, who currently serves as President of the Association governing discipline in Anzoátegui.

Hung Ki Kim recalls and describes the importance of the achievement by his pupil with nostalgia and excitement.     "For me was very special about Arlindo, by what he is," Kim noted in reference to the history of Gouveia, who was welcomed in the home of the Korean family from an early age.

Olympic way

In the 1992 Barcelona Olympic also triumphed guantena Adriana Carmona, who won the bronze medal.

The successful formula of the Academy Hong Ki Kim returned to bear fruit in the maximum universal sport fair held in 2004 in Athens.

In this Edition, Carmona hanged herself another bronze metal and became the only Venezuelan to sign up two Olympic medals.

Dalia Contreras, despite being larense, placed atop the teachings of the Academy portocruzana, which was prepared prior to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, in which accredited third in the 48 kg female, after defeating his rival on duty, the Kenyan Mildred Alango.

"Hong Ki Kim Academy and national team coaches left me much knowledge that helped me to grow as an athlete and as a person," said the native of Lara state.

Athletes trained in the institution have achieved a privileged place in the world, Central American, South American and Pan American Championships.

One of them is Luis Noguera, who won a gold in the Pan-American Championship of 1992, as well as at the New York world in 1993 bronze metal.

In 2011, Carlos Vasquez achieved the award of silver in the Panamerican games in Guadalajara. Six years before (2005), he had won bronze in the world of Spain.

Philosophy first and foremost

For Hung Ki Kim, born in Korea and that came at an early age to Venezuela, the successes are an added value to the social work that based their work the Academy founded by his older brother.

"Us, beyond the accomplishments, we want athletes to win the gold medal as good sons, better parents, great husbands and excellent citizens".

Kim ensures that humility, responsibility, perseverance and respect are the primary concepts of the school, which has led them by the way of sporting triumph, despite the fact that that is not the sole purpose.

"Before becoming Champion, must be first a great citizen, and a good person," said the leader.

Arlindo Gouveia coincides with Kim and adds that "they are not only dedicated to the sports part and that is the basis of the Academy".

In total, the organization Hong Ki Kim has 300 institutions spread over Venezuelan territory, with the purpose of providing positive elements to the society.    "We are working daily to bring a grain of sand to the society, so it is what we believe to be: full of values", said Kim.

Comprehensive training of combatants from the age of 4

Hong Ki Kim Academy athletes train daily from the four years of age, representing the current promises of tae kwon do in the entity and Venezuela.

The Organization has the coaches Sergio Pennyroyal, Seong Hoon Kim and Wilmer Tamer, who taught classes from Monday to Friday between 3: 00 and 7: 00 pm.

The main headquarters of the Academy also serves as stage for the training of young people and adults that make up the Venezuelan and anzoatiguense selection of discipline, under the tutelage of Arlindo Gouveia and Luis Noguera.

Most of the taekwondistas were initiated in this sport at an early age and ensure that primary education is the constancy and respect for the goals proposed.

Miguel Contreras, who has 10 years of practice at the Academy Hong Ki Kim, says that personal improvement has been greater learning that has left the organization.

"We always have to look for a goal beyond". You get one and then you focus in a new. "One always has to move forward no matter what the obstacles are."

Family promise

Victoria Guevara (17 years) and Deborah Guevara (16 years old) started in the Organization of the family Kim in Barcelona.  Later, they moved to Headquarters, where it is prepared with the anzoatiguense selection of the specialty.

To the eldest of the sisters, the most important thing you have learned during the practice of tae kwon do has been the discipline and responsibility.

Guevara coincides with the philosophy of the Organization and ensures that the practice of the sport goes hand in hand with academic preparation.

"First that nothing are the studies and then coordinated with the sport, either as a coach or participating in national events", explained the novel aurirroja fighter.

The selection of Anzoátegui was proclaimed champion of the valid national II of Tae Kwon Do, adult category, which was held on 14 and 15 July.
